To commemorate PM Modi's 76th birthday today, September 17, at least 75 government schools in Delhi have been instructed to light diyas on campus, and their teachers have been ordered to visit the homes of Class 10 top students with diyas and blessings.

Like many other states, West Bengal has reportedly also instructed representatives of the education department to ensure lamps are lit this evening in honour of Narender Modi's birthday.

According to the instructions issued to schools, all activities and events must be captured on video and uploaded to Google Drive.

An official memo from the assistant director of education (physical education and national integration) in Delhi's directorate of education, accessed by The Wire, stated: “Diya material will be provided only to CM Shri schools as per the prescribed arrangements. All other schools shall arrange the diya material at their own level for the Class X topper students.”

The memo specifies what schools must perform in the month after September 17, which the ruling BJP has dubbed Seva Sankalp Utsav. Speech, painting, and reel-making competitions are among them.

It is unclear from the communication whether all government schools in the capital or just CM Shri's schools are required to participate in these events. It is necessary to record and upload the actions.

Schools have received materials for the celebration that were handed out at Chhatrasal Stadium. Drones are also anticipated to record the diya lighting on school campuses this evening, Thursday, according to a teacher at a CM Shri school, quoted by The Wire.

Schools across West Bengal have been instructed to involve students and their families in a lamp-lighting programme, as part of a month-long campaign to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public service. District judges and education department representatives were instructed to ensure lamps are lit this evening to celebrate PM Modi's birthday.

According to reports, the state intends to light up 80,000 educational institutions on the occasion at 7 pm. A budget of Rs 2 per lamp has been set aside for the procurement of earthen lamps on September 17. To commemorate Narendra Modi's 25 years in public office, the festivities will last until October 10. The ceremony is intended to show appreciation for the PM's commitment to "Viksit Bharat 2047" and his public service.
