NEET-UG paper leak: NTA withholds result of Latur coaching centre owner's son, bars him from exam for 2 years

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has debarred Aditya Motegaonkar, son of paper leak accused Shivraj Motegaonkar, from appearing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate), or NEET-UG, for two years. His result for the examination conducted earlier this year has been withheld, and he has been declared ineligible for NEET-UG 2027, according to an NTA communication.

Shivraj Motegaonkar, who runs a coaching centre in Latur, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with this year's NEET-UG paper leak case. He is currently in judicial custody.

What the CBI alleges

According to the CBI, Shivraj Motegaonkar paid Rs 5 lakh to P V Kulkarni to procure chemistry questions. Kulkarni was on the NTA panel that set the questions for the examination.

The agency has further alleged that Aditya Motegaonkar attended Kulkarni's coaching classes, where the questions were provided.

How the NTA acted

The NTA cancelled the NEET-UG held on May 3 on May 12, following allegations of a paper leak. The examination was meant for admissions to medical courses. A re-examination was conducted on June 21.

After the retest, the NTA placed Aditya Motegaonkar's result on hold and asked him to explain the alleged irregularities.

The candidate's response

In his reply, Aditya Motegaonkar denied having used unfair means during the examination. He also argued that the notice issued to him related to alleged irregularities in the May 3 examination. He questioned why his result in the retest had been withheld.

The NTA has since withheld his result and imposed the two-year debarment.

The CBI last month submitted its final report before the designated fast-track court in Delhi. The court is dealing with criminal cases arising from paper leaks as well as the use of other unfair means in public examinations.

NEET-UG is conducted by the NTA for medical aspirants.
